I wonder if
Dr. Alfred Durham envisioned Altrusa as it is today when he founded the Altrusa
Institute in 1917. Our history books show that Mamie L. Bass really allowed his
vision flourish. Today, Father’s Day, is a nice time to look back at our
history and be appreciative for a man none of us has ever met. His idea to
plant women’s civic organizations became the catalyst for the organization we
love.
What other
Altrusa “fathers” have touched our lives? Our male members have been true
trailblazers within our clubs. And our husbands and sons have continued to
support us as we do good in our community. Take the time to thank them.
