Other UN Observances: World Blood Donor Day

Go on, make a vampire happy. Today is World Blood Donor Day, a day to raise awareness and thank donors who make a personal sacrifice to help.

What a wonderful service project idea, lending itself to lots of creative ways to both raise awareness and get the Altrusa name out there. For example, you could host a blood drive in conjunction with your local blood bank. Make it a contest or give it a theme: Get 2013 donors in 2013, or “Making Every Drop Count.” Dress like vampires. Make it fun!

By the time you read this, World Blood Donor Day will be in full swing. It’s probably a little late to coordinate a project, but it’s not too late to go donate blood today, or even tomorrow. Just walk in! Altrusans don’t need an organized project to be of service. And you can still spread the word about Altrusa: Invite the blood center’s staff members to your next club meeting, both as potential members and as your program or Accent!
